2007.6.20 Tokyo District Court Board Judge. The case of Tokyo Metropolis refused to re-employ teachers who didn't stand for Kimigayo. The teachers lost.

10th admonishment 2007.3 Machida city Tsurukawa Daini Junior High School

Nezu didn't stand for Kimigayo.


Violation against order.
6 months suspension without pay or bonus

2007.2.27 The Supreme Court decided that the principal's order that the music teacher play Kimigayo on the piano was constitutional.

2006.12.16 Nezu won "Tada Yoko" Human Right Award

2006.9.21 Tokyo District Court decided that forcing teachers to sing Kimigayo and display Hinomaru was unconstitutional.

8th admonishment 2005.12 Tachikawa City Daini Junior High School

The board of education forced the teachers who refused to sing Kimigayo and recognize Hinomaru to be re-educated.

When the teachers complained, they were admonished.

2005.4.26. Fukuoka District Court Found the admonishment of teachers for not standing for Kimigayo is legal.

Nezu didn't stand for Kimigayo.

6th admonishment 2005.3 Tachikawa City Daini Junior High School

Nezu went from standing to sitting during the playing of Kimigayo.

Violation against order. Reduction of salary 10% for 6months.

2003.11. Right wing party " Kenkoku Giyuu Gun" using a hand gun, shot at Tama Teachers association's office, which is Nezu's union.

2003.10.23 Notification of Tokyo Board of Education- teachers should obey the order to play Kimigayo and recognize Hinomaru.

5th admonishment 2003.3 Chofu City Chohu Junior High School


Board of Education transferred Nezu to a faraway school with a commuting time of 2hours . This breaks the rule of moving teachers.

4th admonishment 2002.3 Tama City Tama Junior High School

Nezu presented a study on "comfort women" during World War 2 to the 3rd grade students prior to graduation.

Board of Education admonished her because some students' parents complained about this.

Reduction of salary.

1999.8 Law of National Anthem and Flag approved

1998.2 A junior high school principal committed suicide the day before the graduation ceremony in Hiroshima prefecture.

Nezu made a presentation to her students about principals forcing teachers to perform Hinomaru Kimogayo using the example of Aum cult.

A cult member said in the court, " We couldn't decide whether the order was good or not, so we just obeyed"

Nezu wrote in her classroom news about the principal displaying Hinomaru, because he broke the decision of the teachers' meeting.

The principal displayed Hinomaru on the pole thus breaking the decision of the teachers meeting in the graduation ceremony.

Many students complained by shouting.

Nezu pulled the Hinomaru down.

1989 The Regulation of The Guidance of Education was revised " The National Anthem should be sung the National Flag should be display in the school graduation or entrance ceremony"

1987 National Sports Festival in Okinawa.

During the World War 2 many inhabitants of Okinawa were killed or forced to commit suicide by the Japanese army. Because of this history, no high schools in Okinawa performed "Hinomaru Kimigyo" before this festival.

But after strict oppression by the gaverment 100% of high schools changed to perform them.

1985 Ministry of Education examined the rate of practice of " Hinomaru Kimigyo" in schools and notified the schools to perform " Hinomaru Kimigyo".
